Paralegals specialize in different areas depending on where they work. So they might work in real estate or patent law; they might work in corporations. Paralegals can work in banks, so they might be working with mortgages or financial documents; they could be working in law firms, working with probate documents or large litigation cases. So, they can get into different areas of the law.
Sometimes, paralegals also work in different areas where they might be called legal investigators or compliance specialists, so there are a lot of opportunities for paralegals.
As paralegals gain more experience, they take on more responsibility. So, in a law firm, they might be taking on more and larger cases or they might be specializing in electronic discovery. They can also get into different areas like investigation and compliance.
